You will need the following documents:

• Valid ID of every registered owner
• Motor Vehicle Registration and/or Certificate of Title
• Safety Check Inspection
• Loan specific information such as Lien Holder Account Number, Address, and payoff period, if applicable

Having the title to your vehicle is essential. It proves ownership of your vehicle and allows the right to sell your vehicle to Tony Buys. The Tony Buys team can also help you obtain a copy of the title from the DMV.

All registered owners of the vehicle must consent and sign the necessary documents before ownership can be given to another person or entity. This is required regardless of selling privately to another person, or to a business such as Tony Buys.

YES! If your vehicle is still under a loan, we require the lien holder information, the loan account number, and a 14-day payoff period.

Valid vehicle registration is required to validate the registered owner(s). If the vehicle is registered in Hawaii, you can apply for a duplicate registration with a valid ID at any satellite city hall. If the vehicle is registered out of state, please refer to the appropriate state’s Department of Motor Vehicle website.

Tony Buys purchases vehicles that are registered within the United States. Any equity due to the seller may be delayed until the vehicle registration is transferred to the state of Hawaii. In some cases, this can take up to 4-6 weeks. Tony Buys recommends that you register the vehicle in Hawaii prior to sale.

Tony Buys purchases leases regularly. We recommend checking with the Lessor of the vehicle to determine if third party purchases are admissible.

Missing documents or lack of signatures can slow down the process. If you have the vehicle title, once the paperwork is signed and the information is verified, we can issue a check in your name as quickly as possible.

If your vehicle was purchased from a Tony Group dealership, Tony Buys will assist you in completing a Cancellation Request Form on the day of the transaction. Once the request is submitted and approved, we will mail the refund to you. If there is a balance owed on the vehicle, the refund will be mailed to the lien holder.

The process of evaluating trade-in vehicles and vehicles sold to our dealerships are the same. In some cases, vehicle owners may benefit from tax savings by trading their vehicle, instead of selling it, for tax savings. Please discuss the options with your sales associate.

When your offer is less than the amount owed, negative equity will be due at the time of the sales transaction. We accept Cash and a Cashier’s check, and debit cards.

When your Tony Buys offer is higher than the amount owed on your loan, Tony Buys will issue a check in your name for the positive difference in equity, pending verification.
